Cinema plan for Gloucester Quays given approval

Plans for a new 10-screen cinema at Gloucester Quays have been passed after a unanimous vote by council planners.
Peel Holdings wants to build the multiplex as part of a £60m leisure-quarter development, which will also include restaurants, shops and bars.
Other developers had objected to the plans saying it would take custom away from the city centre.
Peel Holdings claimed the development would bring in an extra £750,000 to the area and create 500 new jobs.
The existing retail park will be refurbished as part of the scheme, with the new cinema being built above shops on High Orchard Street.
Aviva Investors, which owns land in the city, said it was concerned it would have a negative impact on new developments at Kings Square and Gloucester bus station.
Developer Stanhope said plans for a new eight-screen cinema at Kings Square would be threatened if the new Quays cinema was built.
