A training exercise to test emergency and rescue organisations' response to flash floods in Lydney, Forest of Dean, has taken place.

The three-day exercise was ordered due to the town's close proximity to the Severn estuary and the River Lyd.

Eight organisations, including police, fire, and ambulance, tested their response to an incident akin to floods inBoscastle, Cornwall, in 2004.

A £720,000 flood wall and embankment was built in Lydney in October 2011.

The Environment Agency said the project in the Station Road and Mead Lane area would reduce the risk of river flooding to 1% in any given year.

The flood response exercises took place on 21, 23 and 29 March.
