The Tesco Superstore in Bishops Cleeve is closed after an attempted ram-raid burglary

A supermarket has been forced to close after three vehicles were reportedly driven at it in a ram-raid.

A van and two 4x4s were driven into the Tesco Bishops Cleeve Superstore, in Cheltenham, in an attempted burglary.

Officers were called to the store on church road shortly after 01:50 GMT, with the criminals escaping in the vehicle they drove in.

Police said they did not gain entry to the shop but extensive damage was caused to the front porch of the shop.

Investigating officers believe that a light coloured van and two dark coloured 4x4s were involved.

Gloucestershire Police would like to speak to anyone who saw any suspicious vehicles or activity in the area at the time.

Jonathan Taylor, who lives nearby, said: "They've smashed all the door in the front on the porch area and they've prized up the metal security shutter."

A Tesco spokesperson has apologised for the inconvenience caused while the supermarket remains closed.
