A 99-year-old woman has abseiled down Portsmouth's landmark Spinnaker Tower in aid of a Hampshire hospice.

Great-great-grandmother Doris Long from Hayling Island, who is known as "Daring Doris", will descend 328ft (100m) in her highest ever abseil.

Mrs Long, who holds the world record for the oldest person to abseil, took on the challenge for the Rowans Hospice in Purbrook, Hampshire.

The descent was be her 10th in aid of the charity.

Mrs Long, who completed her first abseil aged 85, said: "I just enjoy it. It keeps me young.

"A lot of people don't like heights, but it doesn't bother me at all.

"The weather would have to be really bad to stop me doing it."
