Boomtown Fair: Festival organisers help car fire victims

Eighty vehicles were destroyed at the Boomtown festival in Hampshire, causing disruption to hundreds of festival-goers

Festival organisers say they are helping people affected by an 80-car blaze at the site to get home.

The fire broke out in the car park at Boomtown Festival, in Winchester, Hampshire, on Friday evening.

The organisers said they would help customers identify their cars and assist with travel arrangements and contacting insurers.

About 50,000 people are at the festival, which will finish Sunday evening.

'Help customers home'

Festival representative Adrian Coombs said the first priority was to help customers get home.

He said: "What Boomtown is doing at the moment is making sure that we help anyone who's affected.

"So we're laying on internet access, phone lines, making sure owners can contact their insurance companies and facilitating people's transport home when the festival finishes."

He added: "We just need to find out what we're going to do now.

"We're from south Wales so we have no way of getting home. It's soul destroying and has ruined our holiday."

Cars and debris will be moved by insurance companies from Tuesday evening onwards.
