A man arrested on suspicion of murder after an alleged assault has been released from custody.

Jason Gregory was left in a critical condition in Vernon Walk, an alleyway between London Road and Winchester Street, Southampton, on 5 May

The 44-year-old from Southampton suffered a suspected cardiac arrest and has since died in hospital.

A 25-year-old man arrested on suspicion of murder on Thursday has been released but remains under investigation.

Mr Gregory's partner Melanie Stacey paid tribute to the "hardworking family man and a father to four".

Police are appealing for anyone who was near Vernon Walk, London Road or Winchester Street when the alleged attack happened, between 23:45 and 00:45 BST, to come forward.
