A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court charged with murdering a teenager who was stabbed to death.

James Laurie, 17, was knifed in the chest in Lindsay Road, Thornhill, Southampton, at about 06:15 GMT on Sunday.

The injured teenager died later the same day in hospital.

The accused boy was remanded in custody after appearing at Southampton Magistrates' Court and is due before Winchester Crown Court on Thursday.

The 15-year-old boy, from Andover, has also been charged with possession of a bladed article.

Paying tribute to their son, James's parents said in a statement: "We will miss you and your cheeky smile forever.

"You were full of life. We will always think of you. Sleep tight now."

They said it had been "an incredibly difficult time" and asked for privacy.
