The GMB union said the dispute was over a "toxic" work culture, wage errors and health and safety concerns

A planned strike by workers at an Asda superstore has been called off, a union has said.

The GMB says members at Gosport in Hampshire are in a dispute with bosses over a "toxic" work culture, wage errors and health and safety concerns.

The strike, originally planned for 12 January, had been pushed back and was due to start after midnight on Friday.

The GMB said the action had now been suspended to allow workers to vote on proposals by Asda.

Strike action was due to take place from 00:01 GMT on Friday until 23:59 on Sunday.

The GMB said talks took place on Thursday between the union and Asda, arbitrated by Acas, the independent conciliatory service.

A joint statement agreed by the GMB and Asda said: "Following discussions held under the auspices of Acas on 18 January 2024, it has been agreed that industrial action is temporarily suspended to allow a ballot of GMB members on the proposals put forward by Asda."
