Winchester park-and-ride buses to run on vegetable oil

Buses in a city's park-and-ride fleet will soon be powered by vegetable oil as part of plans to reduce emissions.
Winchester's park-and-ride service, run by Stagecoach, will switch from diesel to Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) in the spring.
Vehicles using the biofuel could reduce their carbon emissions by up to 90%, according to Winchester City Council.
It is part of the authority's aim to become carbon neutral, external.
The council has committed to becoming a carbon neutral local authority by 2024 - and is aiming for the wider district to be carbon neutral by 2030.
Kelsie Learney, cabinet member for climate emergency, said the change was an "interim step" until electric vehicles could be afforded.
Winchester's park-and-ride service has five car parks on the outskirts of the city centre.
