More trains to stop at Woolston railway station from June

More trains are set to stop at a suburban railway station.
Southern is adding stops at Woolston for its Southampton-Brighton route which will run half-hourly from June
Currently, South Western Railway's stopping route between Southampton and Portsmouth are the only trains that serve the station.
Southampton City Council has also asked Great Western Railway to consider adding Woolston as a stop on the Portsmouth-Cardiff route.
The increase in trains comes as work on the Woolston Travel Hub, in the Colonnade car park opposite the train station, is set to get under way.
The hub will have e-scooter and bike hire, car club spaces and EV charging.
It is hoped it will reduce the number of car journeys between Woolston and Southampton city centre, and between nearby green spaces at Weston Shore and Royal Victoria Country Park.
The car park will be closed for the work - lasting nine weeks - from 22 April.
The hub works and more trains will be in place ahead of the eight-week Itchen Bridge closure.
The toll bridge, which links Southampton and Woolston, is set to shut from Monday 15 July to Friday 6 September.
The bridge will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists, but motor vehicles will need to use other routes to cross the River Itchen in and out of the city.
