Godshill: Deadly house fire likely started by heater, police say
- Published

Firefighters were called to the scene in the early hours of Sunday
A house fire in which an elderly man died was likely caused by an electric heater, police have said.
The man, aged in his 90s, was in a property on Shanklin Road in Godshill, Isle of Wight, when the blaze broke out shortly before 02:00 BST on Sunday.
He was taken to hospital where he died a short time later. A second person also received treatment.
Police think the accidental fire was caused by fabric coming into close contact with the heating appliance.
Hampshire fire service said it had guidance on using electric heaters safely on its website, external.
