The Olympic torch goes on show in Worcester

The Olympic torch has been in Worcester as part of a nationwide tour to promote next year's torch relay.

The 70-day relay will include an overnight stay in Worcester for the 80cm tall perforated gold torch.

Local people still have the chance to bid to become official torchbearers.

Caroline Copeman, from Worcester, has nominated her daughter to carry the torch: "We were unsuccessful in getting tickets so this is my way of getting her involved."

Steve Cooner, also from Worcester, said bringing the torch to the city made the games seem less of a London-based event.

"It does feel like it's a London Olympics, so the fact that the torch is coming out into the regions is quite a good thing," he said.

The flame will make an 8,000 mile journey across the UK before arriving at the Olympic Stadium on Friday, 27 July 2012.
