Worcestershire roads closed by fallen trees

Flood warnings were issued for both north and south Worcester

Paths in Upton-upon-Severn have also been flooded

The Environment Agency said levels on the Severn were starting to slowly fall

High winds have brought down trees and closed roads across Worcestershire, while flood warnings remain in place.

The A451 Kidderminster to Stourport Road was closed for three hours after a tree was blown down near the former sugar beet factory.

West Mercia Police reported congestion and advised drivers to avoid the area.

Several flood warnings remain in force in Worcestershire and the Environment Agency warned of possible further flooding over the weekend.

Dave Throup, from the organisation, said, however, the situation generally seemed to be improving, although localised rain meant levels on the rivers Frome and Wye were starting to rise again.

He said about £12m had been spent on flood defences in Worcestershire in the last seven years, protecting hundreds of homes.

Flood warnings on the Severn at Clifton and Severn Stoke were downgraded on Friday morning.

Strong winds brought down trees at Barbourne Terrace, in Worcester, as well as the junction of Tibberton Road and Clarence Road, in Malvern.
