Two prisoners are being questioned over the death of a convicted murderer who was found seriously injured in his cell.

John York, 25, from Irthlingborough, Northamptonshire, died after being attacked at HMP Long Lartin, Evesham, on Sunday.

He was jailed for life in 2013 for beating a man to death.

Two men, aged 30 and 46, have been arrested on suspicion of murder, West Mercia Police said.

Det Insp Mark Bellamy, who is leading the investigation, said the force was working to ascertain "the exact circumstances surrounding the death of John York".

"Our priority is to ensure those responsible are brought to swift justice," he added.
