Glenn Clary murder: Three jailed for life over beating

John York, Jennifer Ryan and Gary Monaghan murdered Glenn Clary by beating him and tying him up

Three people have been jailed for life for murdering a Northamptonshire man.

Glenn Clary, 60, was tied up and beaten to death in an attack in Irthlingborough in August.

John York, 23, Jennifer Ryan, 47, and Gary Monaghan, 65, all of Irthlingborough, had all denied murder but were found guilty by a jury at Northampton Crown Court.

York and Ryan were told they must serve at least 18 years and Monaghan was told he must serve 16 years.

The court heard Mr Clary, who lived at Garden Field Close, was found dead at a house in Crouch Road on 26 August.

The jury was told Mr Clary, a grandfather, had been with Monaghan at his Crouch Road home drinking cider.

The pair were later joined by York, also of Crouch Road, and Ryan, of Baker Street, the court heard.

The jury was shown footage of the attack on him, which was filmed on a phone belonging to one of the defendants.

Mr Clary died from internal bleeding after blunt force trauma caused lacerations to his liver.

The court heard a recording of a 999 call by York who told an emergency operator: "I've killed someone."

York continued: "I've just killed some bloke," before asking his co-defendants, "What's his name again please, who we've killed?"

The operator then asked: "And how have you done this?"

"By beating him and kicking" York replied.

In a statement issued after the hearing, Mr Clary's family said they "took some solace in knowing that some justice has been administered to his killers".
