A new £10m swimming pool has opened in Worcester.

The eight-lane, 25m pool has been built as an extension to the city's Perdiswell Leisure Centre.

Sport England has provided a £2m grant towards the project which was approved by Worcester City Council in May 2015.

Other facilities include a teaching pool with a moveable floor, gym, several fitness studios and a sports hall. Paralympian Rebecca Redfern will officially open it on 24 January.

Ms Redfern, from Droitwich, who won a silver medal at the Rio 2016 Paralympics, said: "It's great to see Worcester investing in this fantastic new pool.

"People across the UK were thrilled by GB's swimming success at the Rio Olympics and Paralympics, and I was so proud to be part of that. The new look Perdiswell Leisure Centre is exactly what we need if we're going to grab the medals at Tokyo in 2020."
