Bewdley homes water loss issue 'resolved', says firm

A water company has apologised after 800 homes and businesses in Worcestershire had supplies cut-off for 48 hours.

Residents described having no water in the hot weather as "horrendous" and said they felt "fobbed off".

A burst pipe connected to a storage tank led to water supplies running out.

Severn Trent Water said 9,600 litres of water were delivered to 800 properties in the area overnight and are confident the problem is fixed.

One resident, Theresa Elliot, said she noticed her water pressure dropping on Tuesday evening.

"You can't wash your hair, you can't have a shower, you can't put the washing machine on. It's all these things you take for granted," she said.

"I think it's the lack of communication and being fobbed off that has frustrated most people."

James Baker, from Rock, said: "It's been quite warm and muggy. One of the kids had their prom last night and they weren't able to have a shower so they weren't happy.

"It's been pretty horrendous actually."

Bottled water

Severn Trent have been delivering bottled water to the households, but Mr Baker said "bottled water helps with drinking, but it's things like filling my toilet cistern- you can't do that with bottled water."

Sarah-Jane O'Kane, from Severn Trent Water, apologised to affected customers and said: "We are confident now that we've solved the problem and the whole area should be coming back on."

She said it was "one situation after another" as initial repairs to a burst pipe failed to notice air-locked pumps in the water storage tank which stopped water getting to customers.

Ms O'Kane added residents can call the supplier at any time and keep up to date on the website or social media.
