Final say on Redditch's new walking and cycling routes

Residents have until Friday to put forward their opinions on new cycling and walking routes

Residents have until Friday to have their say on a town's first cycling and walking infrastructure plan.

Redditch's Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) includes connecting the town centre better with residential areas via walking and cycling routes.

Worcestershire County Council said people's opinions will inform the development.

"We want to emphasise that this is just a draft," councillor Mike Rouse said.

"We know Redditch already has some good cycle paths, but we aim to make them even better," Mr Rouse said, who is the council's cabinet member for Highways and Transport.

The plans currently show nine new or improved cycle routes which includes better connections to the secondary schools and town centre.

Plans also show seven new walking routes connecting to the town centre better.

Mr Rouse said the new plan was important as it will help the council secure funding from the Department for Transport which will also go towards road repairs.

The council said the outcome of the consultation will inform the LCWIP document which is due to be drafted and submitted for further engagement during 2024.
