A six-year-old boy remains in hospital after being struck and seriously injured by a car outside a primary school, police have said.

The boy was hit by a Ford Fiesta near Stanley Road Primary School, Worcester, at about 15:00 GMT on Friday.

He was taken to Birmingham Children's Hospital with serious injuries but doctors hoped for a "full recovery", West Mercia Police said.

Officers have appealed for anyone with information to make contact.

A spokesperson for Stanley Road Primary School confirmed the child was a pupil at the school.

"We have been in touch with family and can confirm that he is responding well to treatment," they added.

"As a school community, we will continue to support the family."

Stanley Road was closed in both directions following the incident, with drivers urged to avoid the area.

"We are especially keen to see any dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident," police said in an earlier statement.
