A new chairman has been appointed to Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Jim Whittingham, a current non executive director of the trust, will be in the post for a three-year term.

Mr Whittingham, 56, was born and brought up in Scunthorpe, studied at the University of Sheffield and was awarded a PhD in 1979.

His appointment follows the retirement of former chairman William Beaumont.

Mr Whittingham worked in IT before joining the University of Humberside in Hull where he was appointed as a Pro Vice Chancellor in 1996.

He was involved in the establishment of the University of Lincoln and the development of the university's new Brayford Pool campus in Lincoln.

His latest role has been as Vice Principal for Higher Education at Hull College where he has been responsible for leadership of the college's higher education provision in Hull and Harrogate and for the college's estates strategy.

He said: "The NHS faces many challenges over the coming years, including meeting the financial challenges whilst ensuring patients continue to receive high quality clinical care."

Last week the trust announced its chief executive, Andrew North, was leaving to take up the post of chief executive at United Lincolnshire Hospitals.
