Cleethorpes burials resume after cemetery snow cleared

Burials in the Cleethorpes area have resumed after pathways and roads into the town's cemetery were cleared of snow and ice.

All burials in Cleethorpes and Grimsby were cancelled earlier this week.

North East Lincolnshire Council said freezing temperatures meant pathways and roads into the cemeteries had been "extremely hazardous".

The council said work was still taking place at Grimsby's cemetery and it was likely to remain closed until Monday.

A council spokesman said: "Considerable resources were deployed over the past few days to clear roads within and leading to [Cleethorpes] cemetery, and in the areas where funeral services were scheduled to take place.

"Scartho Road Cemetery (Grimsby) is currently being treated.

"It is a significantly larger site than Cleethorpes and it is likely to take some time to ensure it is safe to use."
