Horse rescued from Cleethorpes marsh ordeal

Horse riders exercising their animals on the North East Lincolnshire coast have been warned to take care after emergency services were called to rescue a horse.

Coastguard staff and Humberside Fire and Rescue teams were called to Cleethorpes where the horse was stuck up to its stomach in mud.

The animal was eventually freed from the ordeal over the weekend.

The Humber Coastguard said visitors should get advice on safe areas.

Graham Dawson, from the Humber Coastguard, said: "The horse riders were visitors to the area and the owner became very distressed and concerned for her horse.

"If you are planning a ride at the coast, plan your ride and know the terrain. Seek local advice from local stables about the area."
