Hull's new pedestrian bridge is formally opened

A new bridge which can be used by pedestrians as it moves has been formally opened in Hull.

The Scale Lane swing bridge, over the River Hull, has taken six years to construct and has cost almost £7m.

The foot bridge links Scale Lane with Tower Street in Hull and opens to allow river traffic to pass.

The Lord Mayor of Hull, Councillor Nadine Fudge, said the bridge provided a better link between the city's old town and the east bank.

The bridge, which is close to the Myton Road bridge, works like a giant pinball flipper rotating on a ball through 90 degrees to allow river traffic through.
