Scunthorpe police granted dispersal order

Police in Scunthorpe have been granted new powers to tackle anti-social behaviour in part of the town.
A six-month dispersal order will be put in place around Lilac Avenue and East Common Lane from Friday.
The move was prompted by a rise in anti-social behaviour, including assaults, criminal damage, and arson.
The order allows officers to move on groups of two or more people and take home unaccompanied under-16s found in the area between 21:00 and 06:00.
'Big packs'
Sgt James Main, from Humberside Police, said: "We've seen an increase in anti-social behaviour, young people causing us some problems at the church, stepping out in front of traffic.
"We've tried some of the low level interventions but they have not been successful so this is the next one up. It gives us the power to move individuals from the area."
Councillor Rob Waltham said: "Incidents are occurring as a result of people standing around in quite big packs, so residents are concerned and we must take action to deal with that.
"Because it is collections of up to 25 people clearly that can make a lot of noise, it can make a lot of anti-social behaviour and then the incidents cascade from that."
