Hull's ancient Beverley Gate relic design plans on show

Two proposed designs to transform the relics of Hull's 14th Century defence walls have been unveiled.

The Beverley Gate, in the city centre, is where King Charles I was refused entry to Hull in 1642.

One proposal includes replacing the existing rails with a glass enclosure while the second option is to cover the entire site and create a public space.

The plans are on display until 12 December at the Princes Quay shopping centre.

The city council previously planned to cover up the site as part of its City of Culture plans for 2017 but ruled it out after a petition and a public campaign against the idea.

Councillor Steven Bayes, said they had listened to feedback during the summer and felt the "newly developed options reflect the different views".
