Scunthorpe fan Jack Potts gets ban for throwing smoke bomb

A man who threw a smoke bomb at opposition football fans in a railway station has been given a five-year banning order.

Jack Potts, 18, of Searby Road, Scunthorpe had appeared previously at North Lincolnshire Magistrates' Court to admit the offence.

He threw the smoke bomb at Doncaster Rovers fans following Scunthorpe United's clash on 2 February.

He is banned from all the club's home and away matches.

As Doncaster fans waited to board a train at Scunthorpe railway station he threw the device that landed at the feet of the police, the court heard.

Abusive words

Potts is also banned from entering a designated area for four hours before and six hours after kick-off at home matches.

For any match in London he is banned from a five-mile radius of the stadium.

He admitted causing alarm or distress by using threatening or abusive words or behaviour, in an appearance at the earlier hearing, on 10 March.

Potts was also ordered to do 200 hours of unpaid work, pay £85 costs and a victims' surcharge.
