Plans have been submitted for a bowling alley at the Hammonds of Hull building

A closed-down food hall in Hull could be transformed into a bar and bowling alley, according to plans.

Hammonds of Hull opened in December 2021 but its operator confirmed in March it would be closing due to a legal dispute with the building's owners.

Now bowling company Lane 7 has applied for an alcohol licence for the site, according to the city council.

Lane 7 offers food and drinks as well as bowling, beer pong and mini golf.

Hammonds of Hull was in the former House of Fraser building on Ferensway and featured cafes and bars as well as stalls selling local produce and musical performances.

It created about 150 jobs, according to the Local Democracy Reporting Service.

At the time, its operators Artisan Food Hall said the closure was "hugely disappointing".

Despite opening in a blaze of publicity, Hammonds of Hull was dogged by dwindling footfall and the departure of several concessions.

Lane 7 has venues across the country, including in London, Birmingham, Manchester, Liverpool, Edinburgh and Cardiff.

Its website states that the venues are for adults only after 19:00 and IDs are required for entry.

The firm is seeking an alcohol licence from 10:00 to 01:00 Monday to Sunday, according to Hull City Council documents.
