Police were twice called to the pizza shop in Enderby Road, Scunthorpe

Seventeen people have been arrested after a fight at a Scunthorpe pizza shop left a man seriously injured.

Police were twice called out to reports of violence at the takeaway in Enderby Road on Tuesday evening.

The arrests were for "a number of offences", and the suspects remained in custody, Humberside Police said, adding the injured man remained in hospital.

Appealing for witnesses, Supt Paul Butler said: "We will not tolerate violence such as this."

According to the force, officers were first called at about 19:00 GMT to a report that a man had entered the shop and threatened the owner with a knife. A man was later arrested at his home, police said.

Weapons

An hour later, police responded to reports that "a large group", wearing masks and armed with weapons, had entered the same shop. A fight had ensued resulting in a man being seriously injured, police said.

Supt Butler added: "I want to offer my reassurance that we have a dedicated team of officers conducting a number of lines of enquiry as we look to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

"People living in the area can expect to see an increased police presence over the coming days, providing additional reassurance to local residents whilst our enquiries continue."
