Hull road closed until at least Friday for large hole repairs

A burst water main in north Hull has now been fixed, but the road must remain closed until the end of the week, Yorkshire Water has said.
The water company closed Fairfax Avenue on Monday to fix the pipe, but the water also caused a large hole.
Yorkshire Water said it was now working with Hull City Council on the repairs, which will take longer than usual because of the type of concrete.
The council said the road would have to be closed until at least Friday.
"We know that roadworks can be frustrating for our customers," Yorkshire Water said.
"The pipe that burst on Fairfax Road was fixed [on Monday] and we're working closely with Hull City Council's highways team to carry out a backfill and reinstatement of the road surface.
"It is a concrete composite road and, therefore, the fix takes more time than usual because it needs to be drilled, dowelled and the concrete given time to cure.
"We're working as quickly as we can and hope to have the road reopen by the end of next week. Thank you to our customers for their patience whilst we work."
Local Labour councillors Peter North and Sharon Hofman said on Facebook, external they had sought assurances from the water company because the pipe also burst earlier this year.
The councillors said people should plan their travel with the closure in mind, and further information would be posted on their Facebook page.
The works added to long transport delays in Hull on Monday evening.
