Dangerous driving charges dropped in Bridlington fatal crash trial

Charges of causing death and injury by dangerous driving have been dropped in the trial of a woman who veered across a road and hit another car.
Two people were killed and a child was seriously injured in the head-on crash on the A165 near Bridlington on 7 May 2021.
Laila Barnard-Wigley, 25, had denied five dangerous driving offences during her trial at Hull Crown Court.
She still faces two counts of causing death by careless driving.
The court heard evidence that Ms Barnard-Wigley's car had aquaplaned after hitting water on the road following heavy rainfall.
The Mercedes Benz she was driving crossed the carriageway and collided with a red Peugeot 208 car being driven by Dean Yarrow, 33, with his girlfriend, Faye Wardle, 32, as the front seat passenger.
They both died at the scene, while a young boy who was in the rear of the car suffered serious injuries.
Addressing the jury, Judge John Thackray KC said there was "not sufficient evidence... to convict on dangerous driving".
Not guilty verdicts on the three dangerous driving indictments were formally recorded.
Miss Barnard-Wigley, of Thoresby Avenue, Bridlington, still faces alternative charges of causing Mr Yarrow and Ms Wardle's deaths by careless driving.
The trial continues.
