A jury has been discharged after it was unable to reach a verdict in a fatal crash trial.

Two people were killed and a child was seriously injured in the head-on crash on the A165 near Bridlington in 2021.

Laila Barnard-Wigley, 25, denied two counts of causing death by careless driving at Hull Crown Court.

Charges of causing death and injury by dangerous driving, which she also denied, were dropped during the trial due to "insufficient evidence".

Not guilty verdicts on the three dangerous driving indictments were formally recorded by the jury after directions from Judge John Thackray KC.

The court heard the Mercedes Benz Ms Barnard-Wigley was driving crossed the carriageway and collided with a red Peugeot 208 car being driven by Dean Yarrow, 33, with his girlfriend, Faye Wardle, 32, as the front seat passenger.

They both died at the scene, while a young boy who was in the rear of the Peugeot suffered serious injuries.
