Residents were warned to keep windows and doors closed after a fire broke out at a Grimsby recycling centre.

Firefighters were called to the South Humberside Industrial Park just before midnight on Tuesday.

At its height, seven fire engines and two aerial appliances tackled the blaze and police closed surrounding roads.

The fire was now under control and there were no reports of injuries, Humberside Fire and Rescue Service said.

The fire service did not give information on the cause of the blaze.

A number of fire appliances remained at the site on Wednesday afternoon.

Station Manager Aiden Evans, from Humberside Fire and Rescue Service, said firefighters had been "working very hard to get the incident under control".

"The conditions are quite against us really with regard to wind and rain," he said.

"Luckily the fire has breached the roof area which has allowed us to attack it from above."
