Three high streets are to get £500,000 each from the government's levelling up fund.

Victoria Street in Grimsby, the Stepney area of Hull and Scunthorpe town centre will get new plants and green spaces.

Minister for Levelling Up Jacob Young said the money would make the areas "welcoming and pleasant places for people to enjoy".

There are plans to turn the Sculcoates Park area of Hull into a "major cross-city pedestrian and cycle route".

In Grimsby town centre, "living pillars of flowers and plants will be added and planting around street furniture will soften the landscape to create a more welcoming environment", the government said.

Businesswoman and chairwoman of Grimsby Town Centre's High Street Accelerator Partnership Liz Parry said: "I speak on behalf of the whole partnership in expressing our thanks for this financial award.

"Within the partnership and in the wider business and voluntary community of Grimsby Town Centre, there is a determination to work with North East Lincolnshire Council and others to make a real difference to the environment around us."

In Scunthorpe, a green corridor will be added along the high street, with run-down street furniture removed and replaced.

Stepney, which is on one of the main routes into Hull, will get new plants, trees, green roofs and pockets of greenery are planned to be added to the main street, along with new seating and lighting and hard landscaping improvements to nearby spaces.

John Scotney, chairman of the Beverley Road (Stepney) High Street Accelerator partnership, said: "This will help to improve all green spaces within Stepney, particularly those most neglected, as well as the area in general."
