Three convicted of Treeby family murder in Kent

A father and his sons have been found guilty of murdering a family member who was run down by a Range Rover in Kent.

Father-of-five Jack Treeby, 43, died after being knocked down in Tovil, near Maidstone, last December.

Jurors at Maidstone Crown Court found his brother Bill Treeby, 50, and Bill's sons Billy Treeby, 29, and George Treeby, 23, all from Paddock Wood, guilty of murder.

Bill Treeby's wife Charity Treeby, 51, was cleared of the same charge.

Gunshot wound

During the trial, the court heard how tensions involving a property dispute between two sides of the large Treeby family led to the events of 27 December 2009.

Kent Police were called to Quarry Road just before 1900 GMT to men lying injured in the street, and a car ablaze.

Jack Treeby died from his injuries after being run over, his son, Jack Treeby junior suffered injuries in a car collision.

Gary Treeby, Jack senior's brother, received a bullet wound.

Bill Treeby and his two sons were found guilty of the attempted murder of Gary.

Charity Treeby was found guilty of causing grievous bodily harm with intent to Gary.

All four were cleared of the attempted murder of Jack Treeby junior, and attempting to cause him grievous bodily harm.

The family, of Queen Street, had denied all charges against them. They are due to be sentenced on Wednesday.

After the hearing, Det Ch Insp Rob Vinson said: "This was a family dispute that erupted in to violence leaving one man dead and his brother shot down by members of his own family.

"With the weapons used and the reckless attitude of those involved, we are thankful that no one else was seriously injured."
