Work to upgrade 1.3km (0.8 miles) of water mains in part of Kent has started.

South East Water said the £180,000 project in Faversham would ensure residents in east Kent continued to have high quality water supplies.

The scheme, which started in Station Road and Preston Road on Monday, is expected to take 17 weeks to complete.

The water company said only 100m (328ft) sections of road would be affected at any one time.

Graham Webb, of South East Water, said: "Our network has been serving the community well for many years but now it needs upgrading.

"This work will ensure our customers in Faversham enjoy a continuous supply of high quality water going into the future."
