Superfast broadband rolled out to more homes in Kent

Superfast broadband will be rolled out to 160,000 homes and businesses in Kent as part of BT's latest upgrade.

The fibre broadband will be installed in various places, including Broadstairs, Gillingham, Maidstone, Ramsgate and Dover.

The work will bring the number of properties with access to superfast broadband in the county to more than 500,000.

The latest upgrades are due to be completed by Autumn 2012.

According to BT, if fibre broadband is installed directly into the home it can deliver speeds of up to 100mbps.

John Weaver, BT's south east regional director, said: "As today's investment demonstrates, BT is playing its part in delivering faster broadband across the UK - but there needs to be a collective effort to ensure no part of Kent is left behind."

Other areas to be included are Archers Court, Hythe, Loose, Paddock Wood, Rainham, Snodland, Thanet and Whitstable.
