Quarter of a million go shopping at Bluewater

Shoppers are buying toys and turkeys at Bluewater

Bluewater shopping centre in Kent said it was expecting about a quarter of a million visitors over the weekend.

Assistant General Manager Tim Hollands said: "With just over two weeks to go until Christmas, traditionally we see a surge in sales."

The centre said it expected visitor numbers would be up by about 40,000 on the previous weekend.

Mr Hollands said winter clothing, toys and orders for turkeys were the most popular sellers.

Bluewater, which was built on the 240-acre site of a former chalk quarry just off the M25, celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2009.

Since the 300-shop centre opened it has helped create at least 22,000 jobs.
