Flooding leaves Sevenoaks homes without gas

  • Published

Hundreds of homes and businesses in Kent are without gas after the pipe network became flooded with water.

A spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks said about 800 homes in the Halstead area of Sevenoaks were affected.

She said engineers were working to fix the problem but it was likely to take several days before the supply was reconnected.

The company said it would supply electric appliances for cooking and heating to vulnerable people.

'Vulnerable customers'

An emergency centre has been set up at Knockholt Village Hall in Main Road.

Chloe Boyce, a spokeswoman for Southern Gas Networks, said: "Realistically, it's going to be several days before we can get everybody back on.

"We're talking about thousands of litres of water that have got into the gas network."

She added: "We're working closely with the local authority to make sure all our vulnerable customers are well looked after."
