A 54-year-old inmate has failed to return to an open prison in Kent after temporary release to attend employment outside the jail.

Vincent Saywell failed to return to Blantyre House in Goudhurst after working in Maidstone on Wednesday.

Kent Police said Saywell was last known to be in Maidstone town centre on Wednesday at 18:00 GMT.

He is described as white European, of medium build, 6ft tall, with blue eyes and grey, cropped hair.

He was wearing black-rimmed glasses.

Two prisoners failed to return to Blantyre House in July. The category C/D open prison normally houses inmates nearing the end of their terms who are considered low risk.

One, Raymond Atkins, was later arrested in East Sussex. The other, Jamie Frater, handed himself in at a police station in Dorset.

Police have appealed to anyone who knows Saywell's whereabouts to come forward.
