Police recover £46m from criminals in Kent

More than £46m has been seized from criminals in Kent since police were given legal powers to confiscate the proceeds of crime 10 years ago.

The Proceeds of Crime Act gives police forces the power to seize cash and recover assets such as cars and houses that have been funded through crime.

Kent Police's biggest cash forfeiture was in 2009 when £1.4m was found hidden in a van passing through Dover port.

The legislation targets all crime, from burglary to money laundering.
