Road closures and diversions are to be put in place on the M25 in Kent and Surrey as widening work continues.

Signs on the stretch between junction six (Godstone) and junction seven (M23) are being upgraded.

From Monday, various overnight closures will be put in place also affecting the A21 and M23 slip roads.

The current three-lane section between junctions five and seven is used by 146,000 drivers every day, with heavy congestion during rush hours.

The improvement scheme will make the hard shoulder permanently available to drivers as an extra lane and give additional capacity to the M25 between junctions five and six/seven.

The Highways Agency said a fully-signposted diversion on the A22, A23 and M23 would be in place for the closures of the M25.
