Margate's Dreamland amusement park has reopened after an £18m restoration.

Dreamland has begun welcoming visitors after a 12-year campaign to restore and reopen the amusement park

The site in Margate features vintage rides from around the UK including a Grade II*-listed wooden rollercoaster

Hundreds flocked to the reopening of the amusement park, many with fond memories of day trips to Margate

Dreamland said 17 rides were open for visitors on the first day, with others to follow in the coming weeks and months

Thanet Disctrict Council leader Chris Wells said: "It's fantastic to see the culmination of so many years of hard work by so many people finally come to fruition"

Vintage and replica pedal cars were all lined up, ready for the reopening of Dreamland

Attractions at the park include a roller disco, pleasure gardens and amusements, harking back to the golden age of the British seaside

The Wall of Death was popular with visitors to the amusement park

The Grade II*-listed scenic railway was not ready for Dreamland's reopening and is expected to carry passengers again in the next few months
