The heavy statue would have required a number of people to move it, police said.
A £10,000 statue of one of Britain's greatest poets has been stolen from the grounds of a Kent estate, police said.
The 4ft tall marble statue of Lord Byron was taken from Godmersham Park, near Ashford, between midnight and 05:00 BST on Wednesday.
Detectives believe a number of people would have been required to move the "extremely heavy" statue.
The 18th Century estate was once the home of novelist Jane Austen's brother, Edward.
Police have asked anyone with information to come forward.
