- Published
A section of the King Charles III Coast Path has officially opened in Kent.
The 25-mile (40km) stretch will take walkers from Ramsgate to Whitstable along the longest continuous stretch of coastal chalk in Britain.
It forms part of a 2,700 mile (4,345km) coast path around England due to be completed by the end of 2024.
Jim Seymour, from Natural England, described the Kent path opening as "really exciting" with a route running along a "spectacular coastline".
The route passes through towns such as Broadstairs, Margate and Herne Bay as well as alongside wildlife havens.
Although there is an existing walkway from Ramsgate to Whitstable, the King Charles III Coast Path includes newly built sections of footpath .
New fencing, signage and information boards have also been added.
A Natural England spokesman said it was the first time that legal rights of public access would be secured to typical coastal land.
Councillor Clair Bell, from Kent County Council said: "The coast path provides further opportunities for Kent residents and visitors to access the outdoors and connect with the wealth of nature and heritage on their doorstep."
