A speeding drug driver who killed a woman in a hit-and-run crash in Kent has been jailed.

Lisa Chapman was crossing the road with her child when she was knocked down by Bradley Cain's car in Church Hill, Charing Heath.

The 25-year-old admitted causing death by dangerous driving, failing to stop and failing to report a collision.

At Maidstone Crown Court, Cain was sentenced to 10 years and 10 months in prison.

Cain was under the influence of cannabis and cocaine, and was speeding when he crashed into the 28-year-old woman and her child on 2 September.

Ms Chapman died at the scene, and her child was taken to hospital with non-serious injuries.

'No excuse'

Cain's car was found abandoned, and he was found at his home in Maidstone covered in mud and scratches after running through residential properties and jumping over fences.

He will also be banned from driving for 10 years upon his release from prison.

Det Sgt Faye Murphy said there was "no excuse for his actions which have ruined many lives".

"This tragic incident should never have happened, and it goes to show that speeding and driving under the influence of drink and drugs poses a serious risk to others," she said.

"I'm just pleased to see him jailed for what he did."
