A school has been able to recover from a burglary after the local community rallied around in support.

Thieves broke into the wellbeing bus at Northfleet's Lawn Primary School, which held supplies including food, drink and toys for local people in need.

After posting about the burglary on Facebook the school received help from parents and local businesses owners.

Assistant head Craig Fenton said as a result the school had "more than filled those resources back up".

Kent Police said they were called on Monday at about 08:20 GMT following reports of a burglary at the school.

Police said it was reported that a bus on the school grounds was broken into at about 14:30 on Sunday and the investigation was ongoing.

Mr Fenton told BBC Radio Kent "it was devastating to see" that the bus had been broken into, adding: "It's just that someone had gone to those lengths to gain access to a place that means so much to so many."

But he said the community response to the burglary had been "enormous".
