A cricket club is appealing for more women volunteers to get involved with the sport.

Kent Cricket has issued a "rallying cry" to help it through "a period of exponential growth".

On its website, the club said it needed extra female volunteers in all areas of the club, ranging from coaches to umpires and welfare officers.

The club added that there was a role to match anyone's available time, confidence levels and skill set.

Kent Cricket claimed many independent schools had now switched from playing rounders to cricket, introducing thousands of young girls to the sport.

With the help of the community team at Kent Cricket, it said there were also cricket clubs setting up women and girls' junior sections all over the county.

Progressing to become a professional cricketer was now a "realistic dream", the website added.
