Police said they believe the fatal attack "took place in the street"

Six people have been arrested on suspicion of murder after a man was fatally stabbed.

Lancashire Police said officers responded to a report of an assault in Raikes Road, Preston, Lancashire, at 18:25 BST on Friday.

They found a man in his 20s with stab wounds to his chest. He was taken to hospital but later died.

Two girls, aged 15 and 16, two boys, both 16, and a man and woman, both 18, have been detained.

Police said officers "believe the attack took place in the street".

The teenagers and woman, all from Preston, and the man, from Blackpool, remain in custody.

Det Ch Insp Mark Haworth-Oates said it was the second fatal stabbing in Preston in the past month.

"I understand that people in the local community may be concerned," he said.

"These two offences are not linked but the outcome is that two families in Preston have now been left devastated by the impact of knife crime."
