Joshua Hughes suffered a head injury outside Glow nightclub

A bouncer has been cleared of killing a man he punched outside a Lancaster night club.

Joshua Hughes, 22, from Morecambe, hit his head on the ground outside Glow nightclub, in Dalton Square, in the early hours of 12 June 2022.

He was taken to hospital in a critical condition and died four days later.

Sam Orrell, 33, of Wigan Road, in Leigh, was found not guilty of manslaughter by jurors at Preston Crown Court.

Mr Hughes was one of a group who had been ejected from the club earlier in the night, the trial was told.

Det Ch Insp Jane Webb, of Lancashire Constabulary, said the case demonstrated "the tragic consequences that can result from a single punch".

"I know what happened to Joshua caused a huge amount of distress in the local community and I would appeal for calm at this time in respect for Joshua and his family."
