A pensioner suffered facial injuries when he was attacked after answering a knock on his front door.
The man - in his late 70s - suffered facial injuries in the assault on Maple Avenue, Fleetwood, at about 22:15 GMT on Saturday, Lancashire Police said.
He was taken to hospital, but has now been discharged, the force added.
The lone offender fled after the attack and detectives have asked for any witnesses, or anyone who saw anything suspicious, to contact them.
